Sr. Electrical Design Engineer

 

The position will primarily be responsible for specification, design, implementation and support of utility scale PV inverters and their implementation into PV plants.

 

Job Description:

 

  • Participates in specification, design, analysis and development of engineering projects.

  • Verify and validate designs.

  • Proves design concepts through a combination of computer simulation and physical laboratory implementation/testing.

  • Assist in the preparation and review of product manuals, application notes, service documentation, etc.

  • Create detailed hardware design documentation tracking product development.

  • System design documentation and training for transfer to sustaining engineering and service

  • Conducts WC, FTA and FMEA analyses to evaluate designs for reliability and safety.

 

Primary Qualifications:

 

 

Design, Specification and troubleshooting of:

 

  • Instrumentation and controls (humidity & temp sensing/controls, signal & power relays, voltage &current protection components)

  • Industrial communications and controls (Modbus RTU&TCP/IP, Profibus, fiber links, 4-20mA lops)

  • Magnetics (inductors, sensing and isolation transformers)

  • Low voltage switchgears (motorized breakers, contactors disconnect switches)

  • Power circuits - busing, cabling, thermal management, gate drives, voltage isolation requirements

 

Experience & knowledge of:

 

  • High power (utility scale) bi-directional converters

  • System architecture / application

  • Industrialization

  • Design for manufacturability and serviceability

  • Design verification and validation planning and testing

  • Schematic capture and PCB design and layout

 

Desired Qualifications:

 

Experience & knowledge of:

 

  • Analog, mixed, and power electronic circuit design including microcontrollers, DSPs and FPGAs

  • Digital control of power conversion

  • CAD/CAE or simulation tools such as PSPICE, Matlab, etc.

  • Mechanical design

  • Thermal management

  • Embedded systems and applications
