What can you expect in the Manager, Engineering position?
As an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical Engineering background, you will manage Engineering and Design activities for the continuous improvement of the current products, as well as support the development of new products. You will be the functional manager for the Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering teams, specifically supporting their career development and providing interesting work assignments.
You will interface regularly with other functional executives and managers (sales, marketing, technical services, testing, and supply-chain) as processes and designs are developed and/or improved for current and future products. In this role, you will contribute to the development of a corporate Engineering strategy and ensure there is clarity and alignment for your team.
Specific responsibilities include:
Technical /Operational/Process:
Lead the Electrical Engineering development for new, industry-leading wind turbine designs
Lead the development of best-in-class wind turbine fleet monitoring software
Technical oversight of all electrical and software changes to existing wind turbine designs
Develop and mature internal best practices for electrical and software engineering processes
Represent the Engineering group in cross-functional product development and improvement
Ensure that products meet quality, cost and delivery objectives and requirements
Drive cost reduction and process improvement initiatives
Develop the documentation necessary to provide quality and trace-ability of manufactured and assembled components and systems and ensuring compliance to regulatory bodies and standards
Develop and manage appropriate metrics to monitor and improve performance of the group
Coordinate with Supply Chain and Quality groups to manage and select external suppliers
Managerial/People/Resources:
Establish group objectives, priorities and milestones
Conduct performance management and salary reviews for direct reports
Provide functional management to Mechanical and ICE Engineering teams
Offer technical mentorship and guidance to Electrical and Software Engineers
Contribute to setting and managing the engineering budget and approve expenses against the budget
Implement standard training regime for new employees and career development plans
Ensure that staff follows established procedures while encouraging continuous improvement
Resource and recruit for key functional areas for future growth
Ensure coordination and communication with other functional groups
Strategic:
Participate in establishing strategic objectives
Be available to provide departmental overview to existing and potential company stakeholders
Effectively communicate the corporate vision and promote its values
What kind of background is required to thrive in this position?
Knowledge & Skills:
Knowledge of DFMEA, DFMA, concurrent engineering and other design tools/techniques
Understanding of quality documentation requirements
Good project management background that includes effective problem solving and team facilitation skills
Familiar with UL, CSA, and CE requirements
Working knowledge of mechanical components sufficient to functionally manage Mechanical Engineers
Specifying and sourcing components
Experience in supplier and customer interactions and cooperative development activities
Experience:
10 years practical experience including at least 5 years of functional engineering management experience, preferably in a manufacturing and production environment that includes product development, commercialization, commissioning, and operational leadership

Educational Requirements:
Electrical Engineering degree, Registered or eligible for P.Eng.
IEEE member
Strong in Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical Engineering
Computer or Software Engineering disciplines or variations of such will also be considered
