Civil Designer

For our client, a leading EPC company in the Oil & Gas industry, we are currently looking for a Civil Designer to join their Edmonton team on a permanent basis.

 

  • Typical Responsibilities

  • Prepares and/or develops 2-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings from design concepts by senior designer/engineer within the discipline or from design documents of the front-end disciplines

  • Prepares portions of 3-D CAD design model under the supervision of experienced designers

  • Reviews and checks calculations, design models, drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned

  • Prepares bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline

  • Is responsible for the accuracy of bulk material quantity take-offs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline

  • Works with designers in other disciplines in the overall assignment to coordinate designs.

  • May develop work plans, budgets, and schedules for basic designer tasks based on input and direction from supervisor in designated discipline when assigned

  • Answers questions from client or construction group on design for assigned responsibility

  • Compiles, maintains and accesses job drawing files, records, and drawing controls, as instructed

  • Prepares design calculations used in the discipline

  • Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction

  • Ensures compliance with approved design standards in own work and by those assigned, to provide quality design

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • A recognized degree or diploma in an engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university, OR a professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board, OR

  • Sufficient number of specialized courses in relevant general engineering or appropriate engineering disciplines to meet job requirements, AND

  • Practical work experience in design engineering or relevant equivalent experience in allied types of engineering sufficient to demonstrate competence as a trained engineer

  • Excellent communication skills (Oral and Written)

  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills
